Izu Peninsula Geopark is designated as UNESCO Global Geopark.

11 new aspiring UNESCO Global Geoparks including Izu Peninsula and two differed aspiring UNESCO Global Geoparks are designated as UNESCO Global Geoparks by its 204th Sessions of UNESCO Executive Board held in Paris, France on April 17 2018 (local time).

2018 list of new UNESCO Global Geoparks are below:
