伊豆半島ジオパーク Izu Peninsula UNESCO Global Geopark

Eastern Izu

Near the Omuroyama Lift Parking Area

  • Kozushima volcanic ash

Here visitors can see that volcanic ash emitted during the eruption of Tenjyozan Volcano located on Kozushima, one of the Izu Islands, which occurred in 838 A.D., covered Omuroyama Volcano and accumulated here.

The white horizontal lines of volcanic ash that came from Kozushima engrained into the black strata of a small cliff by the road are a truly amazing sight.
