On the occasion of the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace Day Commemorative Event on July 8 and 9, the Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau will hold a workshop "Cannon Ball Making" at the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace Guidance Center.
We will use a candy to show how the casting mould displayed in the Guidance Center served for making cannon balls. Its aim is to promote understanding of reverberatory furnaces.
It also highlights the relationship between Geoparks and world heritage sites.
*Last year, based on the philosophy of UNESCO, the Izu Peninsula Geopark Promotion Council (now Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau) and Izunokuni City signed a mutual cooperation agreement. The aim is to contribute to the development of local human resources and enhancement of local attractiveness through mutual cooperation between the city and the council. Izunokuni City has a variety of historical sites including the Nirayama everberatory Furnace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, whilst the Izu Peninsula UNESCO Global Geopark has plenty of geo sites, geological sites, and cultural sites.
