(for Summer Vacation Assignments)

2022.07.15

The Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau (Chairman: Takeshi Toyooka) invites applications for paintings by elementary and junior high school students on the theme of "Izu Peninsula Geopark, Where We Live." The aim is to raise local elementary and junior high school students' interest in the region. We are waiting for works that depict not only geo-sites, but also the charm of the Izu Peninsula, such as culture and people's activities. We are looking forward to the masterpieces during the summer vacation.

Applicants are students enrolled in elementary and junior high schools in 15 municipalities within the Izu Peninsula Geopark area, as well as students living in the same area. The work must be drawn on a quarter size drawing paper (about 54 cm x about 38 cm). There are no restrictions on painting materials such as watercolor paint, pastels, crayons, colored pencils, or woodcut prints. Also, it doesn't matter if you draw vertically or horizontally. Please attach the application form to your work and send it to the center. It is also acceptable to collect works on a school-by-school basis. The application form can be downloaded from the leaflets distributed at each school and from the Geopark website. The deadline is Thursday, September 15.

Applicants will be divided into 3 categories: 1st to 3rd grade elementary school students, 4th to 6th grade elementary school students, and junior high school students. The works will be judged in early October, and prize-winning works will be determined for each category. All applicants will receive a participation award. The prize-winning works will be exhibited in various places in Izu.

The Geo Painting Contest has been held since 2017, and this is the 5th time (not held in 2020 due to the influence of coronavirus). It is supported by SUNTOMOON Kakitagawa, Mishima Shinkin Bank, Shizuoka Prefectural Board of Education, Izu Shimbun Headquarters, Atami Shimbun, and Izu Nichinichi Shimbun. For more details, check the website of Izu Peninsula Geopark.
