On August 21st (Sun) and 28th (Sun), Workshops to be Held for Making Plant Specimens by using Pressed Leaves and Japanese Paper.

The Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau is co-sponsoring a series of workshops with Shizuoka University to deepen local residents' understanding of vegetation and traditional crafts.
At the first workshop, students will learn about the local vegetation to create pressed leaves, and at the next workshop, they will create Japanese paper with those pressed leaves using the traditional method handed down in the local Shuzenji temple.
At the workshop on August 21 (Sunday), Associate Professor Toru Tokuoka of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Shizuoka University will be invited as a lecturer to observe familiar plants and make pressed leaves. The pressed leaves created on August 21 will be made into Japanese paper under the guidance of a specialist of Shuzenji Kamiya Washi Kobo, and a botanical specimen will be completed at the workshop on Sunday, August 28.
