Winners of the 2022 Izu Peninsula Geopark Children’s Art Contest Selected

2022.10.02

The 39 winning entries in this year's Izu Peninsula Geopark Children's Art Contest run by the Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau (Chairperson: Takeshi Toyooka) have been selected.

The Grand Prize went to Yumi Saeki, a first grader at Nishi Elementary School in Kannami, Sora Yamanashi, a fourth grader at Oike Elementary School in Ito, and Risa Yamamoto, a third grader at Nishiizu Junior High School in Nishiizu.

The art contest has been held annually since 2017, with the exception of 2020, when it was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic, making this the fifth time the contest has been held. Students at all elementary and junior high schools in the 15 cities and towns within Izu Peninsula Geopark, as well as other students living in the same area, were invited to submit entries in three categories: 1st to 3rd grade, 4th to 6th grade, and junior high school students. A total of 70 entries were received this year from elementary and junior high schools in the area.

As a result of the judging on October 24, a total of 39 works were selected: 3 for the Grand Prize, 6 for the Excellence Award (President of Izu Peninsula Geopark Award), 15 for the Special Award (Mishima Shinkin Bank Award), and 15 for the Encouragement Award.

The works are being displayed at a traveling exhibition held at various locations on the Izu Peninsula from November 1 through the end of February.

The winning entries and a schedule of the traveling exhibition can be viewed on the Izu Peninsula Geopark website.
