Two workshops using stones and shichirin grills will be held at the Georia Museum, Izu Peninsula Geopark.
The morning workshop will be on melting silica and other stones to make glass In Izu, which flourished in the past in the glass industry, there are silica mines whose product is suitable for glass making. This workshop is an opportunity to learn about the area’s resources by actually melting stones to make glass.
The afternoon workshop will be on cooking stone-baked sweet potatoes using several types of Izu stones (andesite, basalt, scoria, tuff, silica, etc.) The workshop is designed to explore the relationship between the type of stone and the taste of the baked potatoes, and participants will record the sugar content and temperature as they proceed.
