The roadside station "Amagigoe" (Showa-no-Mori-Kaikan) has renovated the Izu Peninsula Geopark Amagi Visitor Center (VC) located in the facility, and will be opened to the public on July 18. For the exhibition, the Izu Peninsula Geopark and Tourism Bureau’s Geo Department has cooperated to revamp it to bring the literature related to Amagi Pass to the forefront.
In the past, the Amagi VC was located next to a kiosk at the Showa-no-Mori, and due to the limited floor space (approximately 11 square meters), it was almost impossible to change exhibits on a large scale. For this reason, the roadside station Amagigoe has been decided to move the Amagi VC to the side of the Museum of Modern Literature (floor space about 46 square meters), and the contents of the exhibition, as well as local Geo Guides, have been reviewed many times since February of this year.
The concept of the new VC is "Geo and Literature in Amagi for Walking the Pass, and Drawing the Pass." As Yugashima was once loved by literary figures such as Yasushi Inoue and Yasunari Kawabata, the background of their works set in Amagi Pass is introduced. A leading curator of
the Yasushi Inoue Literary Museum in Nagaizumi Town supervised the renewal to strengthen
horizontal cooperation among Literature museums in the Peninsula. The Geo Department also provided 14 exhibition panels. This is the largest number of panels that the department supplied to a VC.
The Geo Department hopes that tourists who visit the Amagi VC will learn about the charm of Amagi, and that it will also be used for local learning at school.
To commemorate the renewal of Amagi VC, the Geo Department will hold a briefing session on the new exhibitions in the near future. We will let you know as soon as it is decided.
