  • Volcanic products and volcanic neck of submarine volcanoes; remnants of the Izu Peninsula Offing Earthquake in 1974

Deep inside a volcano there are paths, through which magma flows. When these paths are elevated on the surface due to crustal upliftment or other processes, they are called ‘volcanic necks’.

In Nakagi Port, you will find “volcanic necks”, which are the last remnants of an once active submarine volcano and “columnar joints”, formed when magma cooled down after flowing out. These different volcanic formations add to the diversity of the landscape.
